"I have never received as much individual feedback and engagement with my teachers at brick-and-mortar schools as I have at King’s InterHigh. I wholeheartedly believe that the relationships I gained with my teachers have allowed me to achieve the grades that I have."

Why did you first decide to attend virtual school at King's InterHigh?

I joined King’s InterHigh at the start of Year 12 because I haven’t been able to consistently attend a mainstream, brick-and-mortar school since the diagnoses of my health issues and neurodivergence. Once I first left secondary school in Year 8, I attended two other schools at different times but neither were flexible enough to suit my needs. I have always been academic and knew I wanted to complete A Levels and go onto university, but my goals seemed unattainable until I found out about online schools like King’s InterHigh. Thankfully, I managed to secure funding through my local council to access King's InterHigh and have loved every minute of my experience in Years 12 and 13. King’s InterHigh is a flexible and student-focused school, which really puts capacity to succeed as a high priority. My journey at King's InterHigh has allowed me to work on my health issues whilst I study, which has meant I have earnt the qualifications and confidence I need to go into further education.

What's something you've gained from your time with us that has supported you on a personal level?

I’d say that the attention I received from my teachers is one of the things that has really helped me personally. 1-1s with my tutor were constantly available, as well as with my explore teachers. I built great relationships with my subject teachers and they supported and nurtured both my passions and my academic ability. I have never received as much individual feedback and engagement with my teachers at brick-and-mortar schools as I have at King’s InterHigh. I wholeheartedly believe that the relationships I gained with my teachers have allowed me to achieve the grades that I have.

Are there any key takeaways from your time studying with King's InterHigh?

One thing I have learnt from King’s InterHigh is that there is an option for everyone. The mainstream education has its flaws like any system, but I felt trapped in it, like there was no way that I could achieve my goals because I didn’t fit in the system. Now I know that there are different options out there, such as online school, which means that you get a quality education despite not attending in-person. My advice to anyone in a similar situation is to keep searching because there will be something that fits your needs - you don’t have to fit theirs!

What are your dreams for the future?

I am hoping to do an integrated master's degree in Geology at my local university now that I have finished school. When I first joined King’s InterHigh, I had no idea what I wanted to do but with a flexible timetable, I had time to research my options and discover my passions, which happen to be rocks, plate tectonics and deep geological time. After university, I hope to become a geoscientist, preferably in research, but we’ll see what happens!
