Conducting a harmonic balance of academic and music studies: King’s InterHigh and Piccoli Virtuosi
Commencing in September 2021, King’s InterHigh is proud to support the students of Piccoli Virtuosi with access to live, accredited educational programmes online, delivered by highly qualified, expert teachers.
High up in the soaring mountains of the Swiss Alps lies a unique international music boarding school, Piccoli Virtuosi, which offers musically talented children a path to a professional career in music. Delivering an intensive music programme to young musicians aged eight to 18, Piccoli Virtuosi supports students in their drive to reach high instrumental standards and develop their gifts to their full potential.
Complementing the school’s rich and inspiring music programme, students at Piccoli Virtuosi can now develop their academic skills simultaneously with King’s InterHigh. Through King’s InterHigh’s online schooling, these students will receive a full British-based education, guiding them through them exceptionally balanced and well-rounded development. English, maths, sciences, humanities, and additional languages now form the core online subject offering for Piccoli Virtuosi students, with each course taught flexibly online by dedicated, passionate teachers. All lessons are delivered in English and are recorded for viewing at any time, allowing each learner to fit their online education around their music programme.
Music is known to help young people develop their social skills and increase their memory and coordination from a very early age, all while refining their discipline and patience. Education in music also brings a multitude of benefits of the rest of the academic journey, reinforcing students’ learning as well as progressing brain areas related to mathematics and language development.
Nuria Alonso, co-founder and Head of Boarding at Piccoli Virtuousi, commented: “Young people who want to develop a professional career in the world of classical music, need to dedicate many hours a day to the practice of their instrument. This is not very compatible with traditional compulsory education systems. Even so, to have a solid education and general culture are fundamental aspects that our young artists should not neglect. Finding King’s InterHigh has undoubtedly been key for us to offer our students a first-rate academic education while allowing them to focus on their musical studies.”
King’s InterHigh is delighted to work with Switzerland’s specialist music boarding school to help nurture talent and ambitions.
