Year 6 learners do not sit SATs at King’s InterHigh.
Instead, our teachers assess students each week through quizzes and short tests. At the end of each topic, students complete a longer assessment (for example, a written assignment) which tests their understanding in-depth. These informal assessments are designed to track progress and tailor learning accordingly without causing stress to our students.
Fluency is not an entry requirement, but because our curriculum is taught entirely in English, students need a comfortable baseline in English reading, writing, and speaking to understand and participate in class. As a general guide:
Primary (Years 3–6): A basic conversational foundation (around CEFR A2 level).
Secondary (Years 7–13): The ability to follow main ideas and express opinions (around CEFR B1 level).
We want our international students to thrive, which is why our school includes built-in learning aids and resources, such as closed captions on live lessons to help students connect spoken and written words, and 24/7 access to recorded lessons so your child can rewatch and learn at their own pace.
King’s InterHigh is a non-selective, inclusive school. For the vast majority of our programmes, there are no entry exams, minimum grades, or selective assessments. We accept registrations year-round, including mid-term admissions. We simply ask for your child’s educational history at registration so our teachers can support them from day one.
A few exceptions to note:
IB Diploma Programme: Requires at least 7 (I)GCSEs at grade 6 or above (including English and Math), or equivalent qualifications. We are happy to discuss alternative backgrounds on a case-by-case basis.
Years 11 & 13 Enrolments: Joining mid-way through a two-year exam course is tough, so late enrolments are accepted at the school’s discretion.
Ages 18–21: To protect our community, applicants over 18 entering Year 13 must pass a standard background check (DBS or overseas equivalent).
King’s InterHigh is a non-selective school. Currently, A Levels are available to all students with no minimum requirements. However, we recommend choosing A Levels that suit a young person’s ability, passion, and interest.
To enrol, you will need to provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport. You will also need to provide proof of address. This can be in the form of a utility bill, bank statement, or other official document dated within the last 3 months. Alternatively, you may provide a copy of your driving licence or council tax bill.
